Greek Numbers: Counting, Genders and Prices in Euros
The Greek numbers from one to a million, the genders of one, three and four, spoken prices and phone numbers, and how to ask 'how much?'.
Greek numbers are logical, and most are close to the ones English borrowed for science: deca-, hecto-, kilo-, mega-. One quirk is that a few numbers change form by gender.

- 20 είκοσι, 30 τριάντα, 40 σαράντα, 50 πενήντα, 60 εξήντα, 70 εβδομήντα, 80 ογδόντα, 90 ενενήντα

Combine tens and units simply: 21 είκοσι ένα, 35 τριάντα πέντε, 99 ενενήντα εννέα.
Gender of 1, 3 and 4
The numbers one, three and four change with the noun's gender:
- 1: ένας (masculine), μία or μια (feminine), ένα (neuter): ένας φίλος, μια φίλη, ένα παιδί
- 3: τρεις (masculine and feminine), τρία (neuter): τρεις φίλοι, τρία παιδιά
- 4: τέσσερις (masculine and feminine), τέσσερα (neuter)
Numbers from 5 upwards don't change (except the hundreds, and 200 to 900 do, being διακόσιοι, διακόσιες, διακόσια).
Euros and prices
- ευρώ — euro
- λεπτό / λεπτά — cent(s)
Δύο ευρώ και πενήντα λεπτά — 2.50 euros. In speech, people often shorten: δύο πενήντα.
Asking prices:
- Πόσο κάνει; — How much does it cost?
- Πόσο κοστίζει αυτό;
- Κάνει δέκα ευρώ. — It's ten euros.
- Είναι ακριβό / φθηνό. — It's expensive / cheap.
Decimals and thousands
Greek uses a decimal comma and a full stop for thousands: 3,5 is τρία κόμμα πέντε; 1.000 is a thousand.
Phone numbers
Greek phone numbers are read in single digits or short groups: 210 123 4567 is "δύο ένα μηδέν, ένα δύο τρία, τέσσερα πέντε έξι επτά". Μηδέν is zero.
Ordinals
