Shayari for Long-Distance Relationships
How verses about distance, missing and reunion can keep two people close, and how to share them without overdoing it.
When two people live far apart, small gestures matter. A well-chosen couplet can carry affection across any distance.
The themes
- Missing someone: याद (yaad), memory
- Distance: दूरी (dooree) and फ़ासला (faasla)
- Waiting: इंतज़ार (intezaar)
- Reunion: मुलाक़ात (mulaaqaat)
- Trust: भरोसा (bharosa)
A note on distance
Poets have long said that distance does not diminish love. The idea of a beloved close in heart though far in body is one of the oldest in the tradition.
What to share
- Verses of missing, when you are thinking of them
- Verses of trust, when one of you feels uncertain
- Verses of reunion, as the day of meeting approaches
- Light verses, to bring a smile
Pacing
Daily messages can become routine. A better rhythm might be:
- A good morning or good night message when it feels natural
- A special verse when something reminds you of the person
- A voice note now and then, reading a verse aloud
Beyond verse
A poem is a good start. Pair it with:
- A call or video chat
- A shared plan, such as watching a film together
- A small gift in the post
Be honest
Long-distance relationships have hard moments. A verse can open a conversation, but it cannot replace one.
An original example
फ़ासले बहुत हैं, पर दिल क़रीब है, तू दूर सही, पर मेरे नसीब है।
Faasle bahut hain, par dil qareeb hai, too door sahee, par mere naseeb hai. There is much distance, but the heart is near; you are far, yet you are my fate.
An original couplet for illustration only.
Tips
- Share in moderation.
- Add your own words.
- Keep verses offline for patchy connections, and share when you can.
