Comfortable Posture for Long Puzzle Sessions
How to sit, hold your phone and move your body so a long puzzle session doesn't leave you stiff.
It is easy to lose track of time with a puzzle. A few posture tips prevent stiffness.
The common problem
Looking down at a phone for a long time can strain the neck and shoulders. Slumping in a chair adds back strain.
Setting up
- Sit with your back supported.
- Keep your feet on the floor.
- Raise the phone closer to eye level, rather than bending your neck.
- Rest your elbows on a cushion or table.
Holding the phone
- Avoid gripping tightly.
- Switch hands now and then.
- Use a stand if you play for a long time.
Move regularly
- Stand up every 20 to 30 minutes.
- Roll your shoulders and stretch your neck gently.
- Walk around for a couple of minutes.
Simple stretches
- Neck: slowly tilt your head to each side.
- Shoulders: roll them backwards in circles.
- Wrists: gently stretch them forwards and backwards.
- Back: sit tall and arch slightly.
Lying down
Playing in bed can be relaxing, but holding the phone above your face can tire your arms. Prop the phone on a pillow.
Listen to your body
If something hurts, stop and change position. Persistent pain is a reason to see a doctor or physiotherapist.
Make breaks pleasant
Pair your puzzle breaks with a drink of water or a look out of the window.
Tips
- Support your back.
- Raise the screen.
- Move often.
